Railways link cities, and trains traverse the wilderness. From the invention of the steam locomotive in 1814 to the eras of diesel, electric engines, and modern high-speed trains, two centuries of speeding trains have carried countless dreamers across mountains and seas. The whistle of steam locomotives in open-pit coal mines has faded into history, while bullet trains now weave beneath the snow mountains. The photo series captures the days of railway journeys.
